SUMMARY:EVST Online Competition - Vascular Trauma
DESCRIPTION:EVST (European Vascular Surgeons in Training) invites you to the Vascular Trauma Online Competition on 27th November 2023\nParticipation in this vascular trauma competition is limited to EVST members\, but all who wish to watch are invited to join. To register for the audience\, please email phoebe@esvs.org. \nFaculty: Pedro Amorim\, Tal Hörer\, Stefano Ancetti\, Maria Ruffino\nModerators: Petar Zlatanovic\, Paolo Spath\, Ryan Gouveia e Melo\, Marton Berczeli \nThis competition is designed to enhance and promote vascular trauma knowledge from preoperative planning until postoperative patient management (whole spectrum of care). Applicants should have experience in vascular trauma before applying for this competition. \nHow will the Vascular Trauma Online Competition work?\nOnce participants have submitted their motivation letter\, they will be invited to complete a quiz. Candidates will be shortlisted based on their motivation letter and quiz score. The six best candidates will be selected and will receive a preselected case with diagnostic CTA to solve. Each selected participant should prepare to present a solution for the proposed case (~5 min presentation + ~5 min discussion) starting from pre- and postoperative planning\, continuing with procedure itself and finishing with postoperative workup. The case description with all necessary data will be provided beforehand. A jury consisting of faculty and EVST moderators will announce the winner at the end of the competition. \nTarget audience: Participation in this competition is limited to EVST members. Applicants should be familiar with the concept of vascular trauma before applying for this competition. All who wish to join the audience are welcome. \nRegistration: \nRegistration competitors: To apply for this online competition\, please send a motivation letter to phoebe@esvs.org. You will receive a link to the online quiz\, which should be created as soon as possible. After shortlisting\, the six top candidates will receive a case including CTAs and baseline clinical characteristics\, which should be used to produce the presentation. \nPlease note\, applications will close at midday on 17th November. The shortlisted candidates will be announced on 20th November and cases will be shared at this point. All shortlisted candidates participating in the competition will need to prepare their competition by 27th November.  \nThe six best applicants will be chosen to participate in the online competition on 27th November. Those invited to compete will be sent a link to make a deposit of 50 euros to hold their space in the competition. This will be refunded after the event. \nRegistration audience: Please email us at phoebe@esvs.org to register to be in the audience! \nPrize: The prize for this competition is 600 euros\nPhotos: Participants should be aware that photos will be taken during the sessions and may be used by the ESVS in our publicity.\nCancellation policy: We encourage you to let us know as early as possible if you are not able to attend the competition\, to free up a place for someone else. For cancellations received more than 4 days before the event\, the deposit will be refunded\, less an administration fee of 10 EUR. For cancellations received less than 4 days before the event\, no refund of the deposit is possible.

This is a new educational initiative for those with moderate to advanced vascular surgery knowledge. It allows participants to ask and get a response to burning questions on moderate to difficult cases by submitting them for possible selection in the Forum\, or via our social media channels. All cases will be made available afterwards in the KOL Forum case library. You can also just join and learn! The sessions are designed to: \nProvide more advanced training to experienced surgeons\nProvide a rare opportunity to interact with THE experts in a field\nReceive advice on personal cases\nBe informal spaces\nBe exclusive for members\n \n\nThis time\, we are honoured to have Maarten Snoeijs and Fien Gryffroy at the helm. \n \nMaarten Snoeijs\nMaarten is course director of the EVC vascular access course and sits on the VAS Council. His main clinical and scientific interests are vascular access surgery and kidney transplantation. Maastricht UMC+ is the national referral centre for complex vascular access surgery of which he is the clinical lead. In addition\, he is trained as a clinical epidemiologist. \n \nFien Gryffroy\nDr. Gryffroy is a vascular surgeon in Belgium. She dedicated her career to open and endovascular access techniques in Belgium. She is a key opinion leader in endovascular AVF creation with the WavelinQ device. She was trained at the University Hospitals in Leuven and Gent. After her fellowship\, she had the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals like Dr. Snoeijs\, who were invaluable in shaping her skills and knowledge concerning access surgery. \n  \nRegistration and Cancellation policy\nThis is a free event for members only and pre-registration is required. You do not have to submit a case to be able to register\, but the success of the event relies on your interesting cases and you won’t even have to present it! \nSending us your case:\nIf you want a chance to have yours selected\, please send it in\, using the case submission template (sticking to the number of slides as much as possible\, order can be changed)\, to ciara@esvs.org by November 24th. If your case is selected for the event\, you will be awarded a FREE online workshop of your choice. \nLet us know if you want to remain anonymous; have your case explained by the KOL; or whether you prefer to take a few minutes to introduce your case on the day. The panel will then review and select two of the most interesting and appropriate cases for the session and show you how it could be done!  There will be time at the end for questions from the audience about these and other Vascular Access cases. \nAll cases will be submitted to our KOL Forum case library afterwards and in the meantime\, keep an eye on our social media platforms to discuss them! \nWhere registration numbers are too low to run the event\, this will be announced on the website no later than 48 hours before the event starts. Vascular ultrasound is harmless and can be performed bedside. The course is a 50% theoretical and 50% hands-on course. During the course\, participants will be taught in physics and principles behind vascular ultrasound\, ultrasound anatomy and how to perform basic vascular ultrasound examination: abdominal aorta\, femoral arteries\, peripheral bypasses\, basic carotid ultrasound\, deep venous thromboses\,  varicose veins and A-V fistula. Classroom sessions will be followed by hands-on sessions\, where course participants will have the opportunity to practice under supervision on patients with relevant vascular diseases. This course corresponds to the curriculum of the theoretical part of EFSUMB Level 1 in Vascular Ultrasound (European Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology). Attendance in the entire course is mandatory in order to receive a course certificate and CME points. \nParticipants’ qualifications: The course is aimed at vascular surgeons\, vascular residents\, nurses\, technicians\, sonographers taking their first steps. Knowledge of human anatomy is mandatory but prior experience with ultrasound is not required. \nCME: CME accreditation is being requested for this session. \nRegistration fee & cancellation policy: € 550 for ESVS members and € 800 for non-members. The fee includes course material\, lunch\, and networking dinner. Transport\, accommodation and additional meals are not included. Please note that the course is dependent on final registration numbers. The final decision of whether the course will be conducted is announced on the website no later than one calendar month before the course starts. Travel and accommodation must therefore not be booked until this message is given – ESVS is not financially responsible if the event has to be cancelled due to low numbers\, in this timeframe.
