SUMMARY:Management of pain in patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD)
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce a new course!  \nJoin: Miss Francesca Fratesi\, Mr Dave Bosanquet (UK) and Dr Maria Cristina Sorella (Italy) and Dr. Steve Young (UK) \nObjective: Pain management is one of the most difficult aspects on the care of the patient affected by PAD. A good assessment and treatment of pain is one of the most effective parts of the treatement both in preparation and for the postoperative care. It affects all patients with PAD at different level of severity so it is to be considered endemic. Focusing on its causes and medications and treatment available will improve the patient experience and their compliance to other aspect of their care. \nAfter participating in this workshop\, the attendees should be better able to: \n\nUnderstand the current treatment landscape for different types of pain affecting the patient with PAD and the unmet need\nIdentify new and multidisciplinary treatment approaches for pain management\n\nProgramme:  \n17:00 to 17:15 Miss Francesca Fratesi –  Introduction of panelists and discussion of learning points\n17:15 to 17:45 pm Dr MC Sorella – Definition of pain and pain pathway. The assessment of pain in PAD and the preoperative/day to day management: the Anaesthetist and Pain Specialist approach.\n17:45 to 18:15 Dr. Steve Young – Diabetic neuropathy and Ischemic Pain management: is it possible to create an algorithm?\n18:15 to 18:45 Mr Dave Bosanquet – Management of the postoperative pain following amputation: the use of nerve catheter as adjuvants to medical pain management\n18:45 to 19:00 – Q&A and closing remarks  \nTarget audience: The course is designed for all level of knowledge of neuro-ischaemic pain management. The participants should also be familiar with pathophysiology of pain. The course is open to vascular surgeons\, vascular surgeons in training\, and vascular nurses from all around the world. Look forward to seeing you in Copenhagen!\n\nENHANCE OPEN\nA collaboration:  Esvs and copeNHAgeN CErtification programme (ENHANCE ) is arranged as a collaboration between the ESVS Academy\, the Department of Vascular Surgery at the University Hospital of Copenhagen (Rigshospitalet) and the Copenhagen Academy of Medical Education and Simulation (CAMES)\, Denmark. \nToday\, the ENHANCE program consists of two courses that can be taken independently. ENHANCE OPEN focuses on open repair of infrarenal aortic aneurysms\, and ENHANCE-EVAR focus on basic endovascular aortic repair (EVAR). \nJoin: Kim Kargaard Bredahl\, MD\, PhD\, Associate Professor\, Copenhagen\, Jonas Eiberg\, Professor of Vascular Surgery\, Copenhagen\, Cecilie Markvard Møller\, Skejby University Hospital\, Denmark\, Igor Koncar\, Belgrade University Hospital\, Serbia\, Carl Wahlgren\, Karolinska University Hospital \, Sweden\, Christian Lyng\, Sykehuset Innland Hamar\, Norway\, Franz von Jessen\, University Hospital\, Copenhagen\, Denmark\, \n\n \nProgramme description \nENHANCE OPEN is a 3-day simulation-based training programme. Each course pariticipant will perform 6-8 cases as a surgeon\, and 6-8 as an assistant under the supervision of highly experienced open aortic surgeons. Participants will receive supervision\, feedback and hear about tips & tricks. Feedback will be summative in test-cases and formative in supervision-cases. The trainee-tutor rate will be 2:1.  During the course\, participants will train on state-of-the-art life-like pulsatile aortic simulation models and aortic inlays (Vascular International) and use original vascular instruments\, grafts and sutures in a simulated OR environment. \nCourse design\, duration and assessment have been tested and validated. We aim to improve our course through ongoing research\, evaluation and feedback\, which is why monitoring with sports watches\, video recording and continuous data collection will be part of this course. Data collection will be strictly confidential and comply with current GDPR and Danish legislation.  In order to get full benefit from the course\, we recommend that the course participant is prioritised for supervising AAA operations afterwards. \nENHANCE Open AAA Repair is a part of the ESVS Aortic pathway\, and the course can be used in preparation for the FEBVS exam. \nLearning objectives \nENHANCE OPEN is an ambitious simulation-based educational programme aiming to prepare vascular surgical trainees to perform supervised elective open repair of infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysms. If you pass the programme\, you will master all the necessary steps of the procedure and be ready to continue training in the OR on patients under supervision. \nParticipant level \nThe target group is vascular surgical trainees with limited experience in open AAA repair. Experience with essential peripheral open surgical techniques (instruments\, anastomotic techniques etc.) is required\, as well as basic knowledge of abdominal aortic anatomy.  Participants will be trained in teams of two based on prior experience. \nRegistrations fee \nThe course fee is €2000 for ESVS members and €2300  for non-members. The fee includes certification\, 1:2 supervision\, course material\, simulator and equipment rental\, lunch and networking dinner. Transport\, accommodation and additional meals are not included. The ENHANCE programme is non-sponsored and non-profit. \nCertification  \nParticipants’ technical and non-technical skills are assessed continuously with summative and formative feedback to cater to multiple learning styles. Participants who pass the course will be certified according to Copenhagen standards\, and participants that did not achieve the required competence level will receive a proof of participation. SUMMARY:Treatment of Acute Thrombosis of Deep Venous System
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce a new course in the Venous Pathway! Treatment of Acute Thrombosis of Deep Venous System \nJoin: Adam Zieliński\, Efthymios Avgerinos\, Houman Jalaie & others \n\nObjective \nAn endovenous treatment of deep veins thrombosis gains more interest due to the good outcome of it as a prevention of post-thrombotic syndrome\, especially in young patients. Thus\, there is a need to show the possibilities of therapeutical options in this field. The course is designed to give the participants wider knowledge useful in their daily practice. During this workshop\, upon presented cases\, participants will discuss with the experienced convenors about the various factors influencing the outcomes of the treatment of acute thrombosis in deep venous system and also the indications for these interventions\, various techniques of the procedures. Aspects such as decision-making and planning\, intra-operative imaging\, device-technologies and the procedural steps will be looked at. At the end of this workshop\, participants will be able to describe the decision-making and planning-process for the treatment of acute thrombosis in the deep venous system\, list the advantages of procedural treatment vs. conservative treatment\, explain the advantages of using specific devices for given case (tailoring the treatment) \nTarget audience: The course is designed for vascular surgeons\, vascular surgeons in training.  Intermediate level of  knowledge of vascular anatomy and physiology is expected. SUMMARY:Viva Voce practice for the FEBVS exam
DESCRIPTION:The Academy introduces: Viva Voce practice for the FEBVS exam\nYou will be in the experienced hands of: David Lewis; Sanna Kouhia and Eline van Hattum.  \nObjective: Small group viva voce exam practice\, covering FEBVS curriculum topics on vascular disease. The viva voce practice will follow the format of Case Based Discussion with PowerPoint slides to focus questions and answers.The session is mapped to the FEBVS curriculum and covers a wide range of vascular conditions. Clinical presentation\, pathology\, investigation including imaging and treatment options will be covered during the session. \nParticipants will be split into groups with one member of Faculty for each group. Each participant will be asked to manage a clinical scenario for a minimum of 10 minutes under simulated (online) exam conditions whilst the other members of the group observe the discussion. Timings need to be strictly adhered to and will accommodate the number of candidates in each session. The timing of the session will allow for some feedback from the convenors on your performance as well as the chance for candidates to ask any questions. \nOn completion of the course\, as well as assimilating knowledge of lower limb\, carotid\, aortic and venous conditions\, candidates will have a high level of understanding of how to approach answering clinical oral exam questions in an ordered\, organized and logical way. On completion of the course the candidate will have improved their chance of passing the FEBVS examination. \nTarget audience: The course is designed for all vascular surgical trainees who are considering taking professional exams in vascular surgery. \nRegistration and Cancellation policy: € 25 for ESVS members and € 30 for non-members. Clin-Phys.\, Bispebjerg Hospital\, Denmark \nObjective  \nVascular ultrasound is an important imaging modality in vascular surgery. The objective is to teach participants how to perform some of the most basic vascular ultrasound examinations: abdominal aorta\, femoral arteries\, peripheral bypasses\, basic carotid ultrasound\, percutaneous access\, deep venous thromboses and varicose veins. \nParticipants will have the opportunity to practice their skills under supervision during the course. This course corresponds to the curriculum of the theoretical part of EFSUMB Level 1 in Vascular Ultrasound (European Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology). Online quizzes and tests will be conducted regularly during the course and the faculty underlines that attendance in the entire course is mandatory in order to receive a course certificate. The course is a first step on the pathway to prepare you well\, for the CCVUS exam at the ESVS Annual Meeting next year in Belfast. \nProgramme \nParticipants’ qualifications \nThe course is designed for vascular surgeons\, vascular surgeons in training and vascular nurses and technologists. No prior ultrasound experience is required but basic knowledge of vascular anatomy and physiology is expected. \nCME \nCME accreditation is not being sought for this course. \nRegistration and cancellation terms \n€ 1000 for ESVS members and € 1200 for non-members. The fee includes course material\, and lunch. Low incidence of this disease impede gaining expertise in treatment. Open repair of PAA is both challenging and controversial since multiple options are available and evidence to support any strategy is scarce. From the diagnostic dilemma of screening to controversial questions of approach (dorsal/medial) and conduit (graft/vein) selection and decision to choose endovascular solution when results are still difficult to compare with invasive open repair. \nThrough interactive case discussion model and voting of the audience experts in this field will guide you through all these controversies and many more\, share with audience their experience\, and openly discuss all arguments used to select treatment strategy in these patients. \nBy attending this course\, participants will know the indications for some specific treatment modalities and be able to decide if they are the most appropriate for given patient. You will be continuously assessed and will\, if you pass\, be certified according to the validated standards developed and used in Copenhagen”. \n\nJoin: Jonas Eiberg\, Professor of Vascular Surgery; Timothy Resch\, Professor of Vascular Surgery; Michael Strøm\, MD\, PhD; Rebecca Andrea Conradsen Skov\, MD – and other experts \nLearning objective  \nTo obtain technical and non-technical skills in elective infrarenal EVAR\, and make pre-trained novices ready to continue their surgical training in the OR under supervision. \nProgramme description \nENHANCE is a certifying simulation-based educational programme aiming to prepare vascular surgical trainees to perform EVAR on patients with infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysms. ENHANCE consists of mandatory precourse e-learning and 3 intensive days of hands-on training in Copenhagen. We use high-fidelity simulators and the latest evidence within course design\, assessment and certification. \nParticipants will perform case sizing and planning on 3D-sizing stations and complete several EVAR procedures as surgeons and assistants on virtual reality endovascular simulators. Everything is supervised by highly experienced EVAR surgeons guiding the participants through each step of the EVAR procedure. Trainee to trainer ratio is 2:1\, ensuring intensive learning and feedback. \nPlease note \n\nCompleting and passing a comprehensive ENHANCE e-learning programme is mandatory before hands-on training in Copenhagen. Accepted participants will receive a link for the modular eL program 3-4 weeks before the hands-on sessions in Copenhagen.\nYou will be continuously assessed during the course and will be certified according to the validated standards developed in Copenhagen if you pass.\nWe aim to improve our training through research\, and data collection for such work may be part of ENHANCE. Data collection will be strictly confidential and comply with GDPR and Danish legislation.\nParticipants for ENHANCE will be selected among the applicants based on a survey and interview.\n\nParticipant level \nThe target group is novices and advanced beginners\, typically vascular surgical trainees. Prior basic knowledge of abdominal aortic anatomy is expected. To ensure optimal learning and benefit\, completing an online questionnaire and interview is mandatory before a seat can be given. Participants will be paired in teams of two for dyad training based on prior experience. \nRegistrations fee \nThe course fee is €2000 for ESVS members and €2300  for non-members. \nThe fee includes certification\, 1:2 supervision\, course material\, simulator and equipment rental\, lunch and networking dinner. These can be used in different scenario such as cephalic arch stenosis\, recurrent stenosis\, exclusion of aneurysms and pseudo aneurysms\, repair of pta induced vascular rupture. Stents should be used carefully in order not to jeopardize future secondary fistula creation. \nThe course is designed to give the participants wider knowledge useful in their daily practice. The course will highland the indications for stent and stent graft placement in vascular access. The eligible cases will be presented\, and designed treatment indicated. \nBy attending this course\, participants will know the indications for stent and stent graft placement and be able to decide if they are the most appropriate for given patient. A thought that there is no unique and perfect treatment modality for each patient will be presented and highlighted.  \nParticipants’ qualifications \nThe course is open to vascular surgeons and vascular surgeons in training who are performing vascular access surgery. Schrimpf\, HH Eckstein\, B Rantner\, A Halliday  \nPlease note that this workshop is being postponed until further notice. \nWe apologise for the inconvenience. \nObjective \nAsymtomatic carotid artery Stenosis is a very common vascular disorder based on generalized atherosclerosis within the vascular bed. Treatment of severe carotid artery stenosis is performed to restore patency and reduce stroke risk. Nevertheless\, the procedural risk for disabeling stroke or death is about 1% in CAS and CEA. The course is designed to give the participants wider knowledge useful in their daily practice. The course will highlight the findings of the ACST II trial based on clinical cases and also highlight current treatment guidelines on carotid artery stenosis. \nDuring this workshop\, each expert will present a case of carotid artery stenosis and the way the patient was treated (max. 8 min/case for a total of 36 min). This will be followed by a discussion of each case in the expert panel and questions from the audience (36 min/ total). At the end\, a summary will be given highlighting the important key points discussed during the session (10 min). \nBy attending this course\, participants will learn\, based on real life clinical cases\, how the findings of the ACST II impact the treatment for asymptomatic carotid artery stenosis. The participants will be able to decide if they are up to date with the latest carotid surgery treatment recommendations and will be able to adjust their treatment accordingly. The WS aims to help practitioners decide to find the most appropriate therapy for their patient.  \nParticipants’ qualifications \nThe Controversial case discussion is designed for every vascular surgeon\, vascular surgeon in training or interventional radiologist\, angiologist or interested general practitioners who deal with asymptomatic carotid artery stenosis during daily practice. A general knowledge of therapies for asymptomatic carotid stenosis is expected. Also experienced surgeons can benefit from this workshop as findings of the ACST II trial and current treatment guidelines in relation to real life clinical cases and treatment strategies will be discussed. Of note: the workshop does not explain how to perform carotid surgery or stenting. \nThe course is open to vascular surgeons\, vascular surgeons in training\, vascular nurses\, angiologists and interventional radiologists as well as technologists from all around the world. \nRegistration fee & cancellation policy \n€ 25 for ESVS members and € 30 for non-members. It seems that there is a lack of vascular surgeons treating venous pathologies. Thus the course is designed to give the participants wider knowledge useful in their daily practice. As the pool of phlebological patients is very wide and many treatment modalities can be utilised\, the course will highlight the indications for some specific methods\, which are the most appropriate for given patients. Due to the fact that new ESVS clinical practice guidelines on the management of chronic venous disease of the lower limbs were published in 2022\, there is a need to update the knowledge to improve treatment efficiency. \nBy attending this course\, participants will know the indications for some specific treatment modalities and be able to decide if they are the most appropriate for given patient. A thought that there is no unique and perfect treatment modality for each patient will be presented and highlighted. Special interest will be put on the new recommendations shown in currently published ESVS 2022 guidelines. \nParticipants’ qualifications \nThe course is designed for vascular surgeons and vascular surgeons in training from all around the world.  Basic knowledge of vascular anatomy and physiology is expected. \nRegistration fee & cancellation policy \n€ 25 for ESVS members and € 30 for non-members. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. \n  \nObjective \nBuilding on what was taught at the Basic Course in Vascular Ultrasound in January this year\, the objective of this course is to teach the science behind\, technical and practical aspects of more advanced vascular ultrasound examinations\, i.e. arteries of the lower limb below the knee\, carotid and vertebral arteries\, arteries of the upper limb\, haemodialysis vascular access\, EVAR surveillance\, mesenteric and celiac trunk\, and 3D and contrast-enhanced ultrasound. Participants will have an opportunity to practice their skills under supervision during the course as > 50% of the course will be hands-on sessions on patients with relevant vascular pathology. \nParticipants’ qualifications \nThe course is designed for vascular surgeons\, angiologists\, vascular surgeons in training\, vascular nurses\, sonographers and technologists.
