SUMMARY:Management of Aortic Rupture\, Barcelona (MARB) 2025
DESCRIPTION:Please join us in Barcelona for another MARB course!\nCourse confirmed – please go ahead and book your travel and accommodation!\nYour convenors will be: Zoran Rancic & Elena Iborra\nThe faculty guiding you includes: Ramon Vila\, Emma Espinar\, Begoña Gonzalo\, Carolina Herranz\, Malka Huici\, Carlos Martinez-Rico\, Dorelly Martínez-del-Carmen\, Antoni Romera\, Raul Lara\, Esther Alba\, Raul Herrera\, Irene Tatger\, Ivan Macía\, Zoilo Madrazo. \nTwelve vascular surgeons who will have to deal with the management of a ruptured aortic aneurysm (RAAA) are the target audience for the novel and exclusive MARB course. It is a 2-day course that seeks to cover all the details regarding a ruptured aneurysm. \nThe course aims to offer students the skills they need to manage the RAAA comprehensively and empower them. We also intend to provide students with the tools to create a programme to improve RAAA management in their centre. We will give them the resources needed to manage a RAAA effectively\, to export and apply the information and behaviours they learned in their home country. \nIt is a twenty-hour face-to-face course distributed over two days of intense work. The student collaborates with peers in small groups while being supervised by tutors who are subject matter experts. Due to the focused attention\, the student can clarify questions in an ongoing\, casual conversation. It involves academic components and a practical application of learning by putting the student in the position of the instructor. \nDuring the mornings\, we will review several theoretical aspects: \n\n\n\nHaemodynamic RAAA Approach: We will discuss the main periods in patient management and how to behave in each circumstance with the assistance of an anaesthesiologist.\nRadiological Interpretation: We will review the results of multiple CT scans and share the critical tools that will allow the learner to read a CT angio accurately.\nVascular RAAA Management: Being assessed by experienced Vascular Surgeons and working on a simulator\, we will see how to perform an efficient aortic clamping on a critical patient\nAbdominal Compartment Syndrome: We will concentrate on abdominal compartment syndrome\, working with a general surgeon to understand how to identify and treat it.\nNon-Technical Abilities: We will introduce you to the non-technical skills that are useful in emergencies and are required for the team to perform well\n\nDuring the afternoons\, we will move to two different scenarios: \n\nIn the dissection room\, we will begin with an anatomical overview of the aorta. The student will receive a review of the essential anatomy to perform atypical aortic approaches that may allow above the renal arteries or thoracic aortic clamp. It will be followed by a practical exercise with cadaver models to put the lessons learned into practice.\nWe will implement rAAA management in the hybrid operating room and hold a debriefing to review the team’s development during the exercise.\n\n\n\n \nCome to the dissection room at the University of Barcelona School of Medicine and try alternative aortic approaches to save your patients. \n  \n  \n  \n \nYou can also come to see our hybrid operating room and practice your skills during a simulation. \n  \n  \n  \nLearning Objectives \n\nDevelop a thorough understanding of RAAA management techniques.\nEmpower yourself with the skills required to handle RAAA cases effectively.\nGain insights into creating and implementing a program to enhance RAAA management at your center.\n\nProgramme Description \nDuration: 20 hours over two intense days.\nFormat: Face-to-face sessions with small group collaboration and expert supervision. \nWhy MARB? \n\nExpert Guidance: Benefit from the mentorship of experienced vascular surgeons and subject matter experts.\nPractical Application: Move beyond theory with hands-on exercises in realistic scenarios.\nCollaborative Learning: Engage with peers in small groups for personalised attention and ongoing discussions.\n\nSecure your spot now to elevate your expertise in RAAA management.\nLimited seats are available.\nDon’t miss your chance to be part of this transformative experience.\nWe look forward to welcoming you to the MARB course! \nParticipant level: The target group is vascular surgeons with limited experience in RAAA management. Based on prior experience\, participants will work in teams of three. \nRegistration & Cancellation Policy: The registration fee is €950 for ESVS members and €1200 for non-members.
