SUMMARY:ESVS Diagnosis and treatment of popliteal artery aneurysm
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce a new course in the PAD Pathway!\nTreatment of popliteal artery aneurysm – treatment strategy decision making \nYou will be in the capable hands of Kak Khee Yeung\, Anne Cervin\, Martin Bjorck\, Irwin Mohan and Emiliano Chisci  \nObjective: Popliteal artery aneurysm is limb and life-threatening condition due to its complications – thrombosis and rupture. Low incidence of this disease impede gaining expertise in treatment. Open repair of PAA is both challenging and controversial since multiple options are available and evidence to support any strategy is scarce. From the diagnostic dilemma of screening to controversial questions of approach (dorsal/medial) and conduit (graft/vein) selection and decision to choose endovascular solution when results are still difficult to compare with invasive open repair. Through interactive case discussion model and voting of the audience experts in this field will guide you through all these controversies and many more\, share with audience their experience\, and openly discuss all arguments used to select treatment strategy in these patients. \nBy attending this course\, participants will know the indications for some specific treatment modalities and be able to decide if they are the most appropriate for given patient. A thought that there is no unique and perfect treatment modality for each patient will be presented and highlighted. \nTarget audience: The course is designed for basic level of knowledge of pathology and pathophysiology of the aneurysm disease as well as knowledge about clinical presentation is expected. The participants should be familiar with diagnostic procedures. \nRegistration and Cancellation policy: € 25 for ESVS members and € 30 for non-members. Please note that the course is dependent on final registration numbers. Where registration numbers are too low to run the course\, this will be announced on the website no later than 48 hours before the course starts. SUMMARY:Planning and sizing Elective and Emergent TEVAR
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce a course in the aortic Pathway! \nJoin: Zoran Rancic\, Christos Karkos\, Fernando Gallardo\, Igor Koncar\, Ferdinanc Serracino-Inglott & Enrico Gallitto \nObjective \nEndovascular procedures on aortic aneurysms and dissection are increasingly encountered in clinical practice. Such a procedure requires careful and accurate sizing and planning as this step will prevent unexpected and undesirable complications during the intervention. In order to improve accuracy\, planning of aortic procedures by segmentation\, creating centre lumen line and stretching the aorta measuring accurately lengths while orthogonal cross sections are used for accurate diameter measurements. Beside length\, and diameter measurement of angulation and in advance definition of C-arm position secure safe and precise stent-graft deployment. A software will be used to make demonstrations during the course. The theoretical part of the workshop will introduce participants to the pathology of thoracic aorta\, important features diagnosis\, steps of the TEVAR stent-graft deployment\, and the consequences of mistakes occurred at this step. Specific clinical situations will be addressed and pathognomonic signs of different thoracic diseases. Thus the course is designed to give the participants wider knowledge useful in their daily practice. \nBy attending this course\, participants will familiarize themselves with one software for sizing and planning endovascular procedures\, learn how to use it for specific thoracic pathologies (aneurysm\, rupture\, dissection) and how to prevent the procedural complications through precise and adequate measuring. \nTarget audience: Basic to moderate. The course is designed for vascular and endovascular surgeons\, vascular surgeons in training\, endovascular physicians in training.  Basic knowledge of vascular anatomy and physiology is expected. For the active participation in Sizing and Planning of emergent TEVAR the understanding of acute aortic pathology (dissection and rupture) is required. \nRegistration and Cancellation policy: € 28 for ESVS members and € 33 for non-members. SUMMARY:Complex vascular access scenarios
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce a new course in the Vascular Access Pathway\, in collaboration with the Vascular Access Society (VAS)!  \nComplex vascular access scenarios\n Join: Flavia Gentile\, Anton Razuaev\, Matteo Tozzi\, David Shemesh\, Roberta Brambilla \n  Objective \nThe increased survival of patients in dialysis and the gradual increase in the age of uremic patients commencing chronic dialysis raises serious problems for the creation and maintenance of efficient vascular access. In cases in where it is extremely difficult to create arteriovenous fistulas (AVF) using existing upper limb veins\, it is possible to resort to vascular grafts\, lower limb AVF. Experts in the field will share their experience in particularly challenging situations necessitating complex procedures. The course is designed to give the participants wider knowledge useful in their daily practice. By attending this course\, participants will learn treatment strategies in difficult access scenarios. SUMMARY:EVST Aortic Competition (online)
DESCRIPTION:EVST invites you to the special Aortic Online Competition on 5th June 2023 \nParticipation in this competition is limited to EVST members\, but all who wish to watch are invited to join. Further details will be shared closer to the event. \nFaculty: Sebastian Debus\, Michael Jacobs\, Marko Dragas\, Xavier Berard\, Zoran Rancic (Academy)\nModerators: Petar Zlatanovic\, Vaiva Dabravolskaite\, Liliana Domingos (EVST) \nDespite the advances of endovascular AAA repair\, open surgery still remains a treatment option for a certain pool of patients. With fewer open surgeries performed annually\, the number of trainees and junior surgeons with adequate experience will decline in the future. Due to the fact that open surgery is a more durable solution\, younger generations of vascular surgeons should be trained in both standard and complex open aortic surgery\, and the idea of this competition is to promote this important aspect of education for every vascular surgeon. This online competition is designed to enhance and promote the acquisition of AAA skills in planning and performing open aortic surgery. \nHow will it work?\nAfter applying\, participants will be provided with the case description and the necessary CTA in order to produce their presentation. The participants shortlisted to compete\, will attend the online competition where they will present a solution for a specific case that they’ve worked on and submitted in advance (7 minutes). The jury will then comment and ask each competitor specific questions related to their solution (5 minutes). After the competition element\, each of the senior faculty will present the actual solution that was carried out. Following a vote\, the winner will be announced at the end of the competition.  All of this will be performed in a relaxed and encouraging atmosphere\, so don’t be stressed! \nTarget audience: Participation in this competition is limited to EVST members. Applicants should be familiar with the concept of open aortic surgery before applying for this competition. All who wish to watch are invited to sign up via a link that will be shared closer to the time. \nRegistration: \nRegistration competitors: To apply for this online competition\, please send a CV and motivation letter to phoebe@esvs.org. You will then receive a case including CTAs and baseline clinical characteristics\, which you should use to produce your presentation. You will also receive a link to the online quiz.\nPlease note\, applications will close at midday on 19th May. The quiz and presentation must be submitted by 21st May. The shortlisted candidates will be announced by 29th May.\n \nEach participant will then be shortlisted based on the following criteria: \n\nQuality of their presentation for the specific AAA case\, which will be submitted in advance. This should include preoperative planning\, the procedure itself and postoperative workup.\nA motivation letter\nA short quiz\n\nThe eight best applicants will be chosen to participate in the online competition on 5th June. Those invited to compete will be sent a link to make a deposit of 50 euros to hold their space in the competition. This will be refunded after the event. \nRegistration audience: Please email us at info@esvs.org to register to be in the audience! \nPrize: The prize for this competition is 600 euros!\nPhotos: Participants should be aware that photos will be taken during the sessions and may be used by the ESVS in our publicity.\nCancellation policy: We encourage you to let us know as early as possible if you are not able to attend the competition\, to free up a place for someone else. For cancellations received more than 4 days before the event\, the deposit will be refunded\, less an administration fee of 10 EUR. For cancellations received less than 4 days before the event\, no refund of the deposit is possible.

SUMMARY:PAD Pathways : Basic Anastomosis 2023
DESCRIPTION:Did you miss it last year?\nHere is your chance to participate in another of our hands-on (online) Basic Anastomosis courses \n2 part- course: 1st June (17:30-19:30) &\n13th June (17:30-19:30) \nRegistration deadline extended to May 17th midday!\nJoin Kak Khee Yeung\, Carl Wahlgren\, Maarten Truijers and Desiree van den Hondel as they guide you through Basic Anastomosis training. \nSuturing vascular anastomosis is one of the main basic skills in vascular surgery. It is very specific and experiences with other anastomosis are not useful to perform vascular anastomosis. Lack of open surgical procedures in the common vascular surgical practice due to evolution of endovascular techniques is reducing training volume in everyday training. Also\, training on models is these days\, the recommended method for most surgical techniques. The course is designed to give the participants the possibility to learn  about and perform vascular anastomosis on a model\, being supervised by experts online. Such a course will provide participants with basic theoretical knowledge regarding anastomotic suturing and provide them with models to train and be evaluated on in the second session. \nBy attending this course\, participants will come to know the principles of the vascular anastomosis\, the drawbacks and technical tips\, as well as how to improve their technique. They will  be prepared to perform vascular anastomosis on their own patients under a certain level of supervision. They will learn how to use the model and how to perform end-to-side and end-to-end anastomosis through practice. \nNext steps: \n\nSign up\nReceive your kit (yours to keep)\nFollow the demonstrations by the expert faculty\nPractice live\, online with the aid of a camera on your model\nReceive personalised feedback on your work\n\n \n  \nIntended audience: The course is designed for vascular surgeons\, vascular surgeons in training.  Basic knowledge of vascular anatomy and physiology is expected. \nRegistration: Course fees : 300€ ESVS members\, 400€ non-members (includes kit and shipment within Europe – shipment costs for outside of Europe will be invoiced separately). Registration will close on May 17th midday to allow time to ship the kits to you. Please provide a home delivery address\, not a work one. This is a 2-part course and so we highly recommend you register for both dates. We recommend that you ask an ‘assistant’ to join you during the sessions. They will be a second pair of hands to help you\, for practical reasons i.e. allowing your to be hands-on with the equipment whilst the ‘assistant’ ensure the camera is well-positioned and a clear image is broadcast. \nBECOME A MEMBER TODAY \nCancellation policy: Once your registration has been confirmed and your equipment kit ordered we are unable to issue refunds. \nCME: CME accreditation is being requested for this session. \nRecordings: Participants are aware that the online session will be recorded and may be used by the ESVS on our website and e-library.

SUMMARY:Carotid Pathway: basic carotid surgery hands-on workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join Claudia Schrimpf\, Mathias Wilhelmi\, Floran Enzmann & others\, to be confirmed \nThis is an online workshop in the Carotid Pathway of the ESVS online workshop series for surgical techniques \nThe workshop consists of two parts\, divided into two separate days. On day one\, short introductory presentations will be given for surgical techniques\, then the participants will be divided into groups of 4-5 people and be taught by one tutor to perform the carotid endarterectomy and patchplasty (day 1)\, as well as eversion endarterectomy (day2). The second day of the course will also be used to ask additional questions from day one. \nCarotid artery disease is a common vascular disorder that may lead to neurological symptoms or worse\, to disabling stroke. As advances in medical treatment\, and endovascular or hybrid techniques advance\, less and less carotid endarterectomies or eversion endarterectomies are performed as open vascular procedures. Thus\, the course is designed to teach the participants general techniques in a hands-on workshop to perform carotid surgery. We use a simple but useful simulator and surgical instruments that will be shipped to the participants prior of the course and can be used individually afterwards. \nThe participants will receive a vascular simulator kit containing two carotid bifurcations and surgical instruments needed to perform carotid surgery. We recommend that you ask an ‘assistant’ to join you during the sessions.  This is essentially a second pair of hands with you for practical reasons i.e. allowing yourself to be all hands on the equipment\, with the ‘assistant’ helping ensure a clear image is broadcast. \nKit list (yours to keep): \n \nTarget audience: The course is designed for trainees/ vascular surgeons with basic level knowledge. Carotid endarterectomy is one of the elements of the FEBVS practical exam and doing this WS will increase your ability to pass it. It is helpful if you have already participated in the Basic Anastomosis WS\, but it is not a requirement. You should also be familiar with general anastomosis techniques: anchor and parachute technique. \nNext steps: \n\nSign up\, giving a private (home) address and not an address at your hospital / place of work to receive the kit. You will be sent a tracking number by email.\nReceive your kit\nPractice online under the supervision of renowned experts\, giving you personalised feedback on your work\n\nRegistration: Registration is open now and will close on 24th April to allow time to ship the kits. Course fees – both sessions inclusive: 300€ ESVS Members\, 400€ Non-members (includes kit and shipment within Europe – shipment outside of Europe will be invoiced separately). \nCancellation policy: Once your registration has been confirmed and your equipment kit ordered we are unable to issue refunds. The final decision of whether the course will be conducted is announced on the website no later than one month before the course starts. \nCME: CME accreditation is not being requested for this session. \nRecordings: Participants should be aware that the online session will be recorded and may be used by the ESVS on our website and e-library. \nBECOME A MEMBER

This allows a comprehensive coverage of the theory saving time for on-site hands-on. Some topics will be explained while performing the exam live in the same room. \nClassroom teaching is supplemented by sessions at the Vascular Laboratory\, where participants have the opportunity to practice their skills under supervision on patients with relevant disease and on silicone models for US guided puncture. Hands-on sessions last 5 hours each day. (5 participants / 1 tutor / 1 station) \nE-learning module \nBefore attending the course\, participants will have access to an on-line blended learning module that will introduce them to the basic knowledge of ultrasound and the standards of the different examinations. \nThe e-learning module includes:\n• recordings of the presentations of all lectures.\n• a quiz that helps to review basic concepts of US physics\, the anatomy of commonly examined areas and most important diagnostic criteria.\n• a forum open to questions from all participants.\n• a survey about previous US experience that will help us to prepare the groups for the workshop.\nThis preparatory module is intended as a tool to save time in lectures\, allowing more time for hands-on practice. It will open 15 days before the course and close one month after it. Registered participants will receive access instructions before April 21th . \nAccreditation: CME accreditation is being sought for this course. \nParticipants’ qualifications: The workshop is addressed mainly to novice trainees and to those willing to prepare for the CCVUS examination. \nRegistration fee & cancellation policy: The registration fee is €750 for ESVS members and €800 for non-members.
